Omicron case detected in AP

Delhi, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Gujarat states of India have reported cases of the new COVID-19 variant Omicron. Maharashtra state has seen the maximum number of the cases. For Andhra Pradesh and Chandigarh, these were the 1st cases whereas in Karnataka, it was the third.

In Andhra Pradesh state, a man who returned from Ireland, tested positive for the Omicron strain of Covis-19, which has raised concerns of a fresh outbreak across the world. The man is  currently in Vishakhapatnam.

The person was tested and found negative for COVID-19 and was then allowed to travel onward to Visakhapatnam on 27th November. Despite having no symptoms, he was subjected to a retest after the 14-day home quarantine in Vizianagaram as per the protocol, which confirmed the presence of Omicron variant. Dr Poonam Khetrapal, Regional Director South East Asia, said: A new variant does not mean that things will be worse but definitely they will be more uncertain.
