Tamil star Surya was last seen playing the lead role in Jai Bhim, which was directed by TJ Gnanavel. The film Jai Bhim which is inspired by true events of the tribal community, has now made it to the Oscars’ YouTube channel.
The movie also has Lijomol Jose and Manikandan, was premiered directly on a popular OTT platform on 2nd 2021. The movie received an overwhelming response from critics and the audience. However, Vanniyar Sangam accused the team of tarnishing the image of the community. They asked the filmmakers to remove objectionable scenes, pay Rs 5 Cr in damages and tender an unconditional apology.
The movie Jai Bhim is based on a real case studies helmed by Activist-Lawyer Chandru, who brought justice to indigenous tribes in Tamilnadu through his relentless efforts. It follows the story of members of the Irular community who are subjected to custodial torture and the caste injustice.
